MUST BRING LAPTOP
In this hands-on computer workshop, acquire and examine actual client data to find fraud. The real "live" data set will include the sales journal, cash disbursements, cash receipts and financial statements. Learn how to look for hidden data and a trace a perpetrator's steps in a practical exercise.
We will also reveal how to produce the missing multiple iterations of the accounting files, letters, spreadsheets and email.
You won't have to just rely on an Information Technology person, with no forensic training, or worse yet, one who claims to know everything about computers and in the end comes up with nothing you can use.
Have you ever wondered what the Digital Investigators (DI) do in order to provide the information relied upon in forensic accounting cases? Do they merely know which commands to click and magically the data appears? Even the data your target thought they deleted?
Now, you can discover how to extract data by analyzing the software system, emails, cell phones, Internet and web sites in a forensically sound manner. This is your opportunity to understand the basics of these processes. You will learn about software and what it does. You will test files and grab screen shots. You will be able to determine what files have been accessed by your employees or clients.
This course is not designed to make you skilled enough to run the forensic acquisition portion of a fraud investigation, but now you will know what is done and how it is done. More importantly, you will learn what NOT to do to destroy the forensic value of the suspect data.
This is a fast-paced course, but no one will be left behind. This is a HANDS ON COURSE. You will be given a USB Flash Drive, to keep. It contains software tools having real application to the work you do AND we will instruct you how to use them. You MUST bring a Wi-Fi enabled laptop computer with a least 2 USB ports.
The goal of this course is to demystify digital forensics.
